Now, for the R-ATP guys, they are responsible for going to the FSDO to get the restriction removed from their certificate to make it a full fledged ATP. When going into the FSDO to do that, I'd imagine they would need to see a logbook. I'm not sure if they do or do not. Someone who's been through that process can chime in.
You "need" your logbook if you updated your hours in IACRA.
The APD has to verify the updated hours.
This dialogue may or may not have happened during my LOE with my CA pair:
APD: "I see you updated your hours. You showed me your logbook, right?"
CA: "No, I don't have my logbooks with me"
APD: "I mean - You showed me your logbook, RIGHT?"
CA: "Ah yes, I did"
APD: "Good. If the FAA was here, you'd be f*cked".
