Exactly. The official FAA hours need to be verified by the APD if, and only if, you update them in IACRA, and the company records aren't sufficient for that (because you can buzz around in a 150 outside company flying if you want).
Alternatively, one can update her/his hours during your FAA Medical renewal process (best option). This method avoids putting the APD on the hook for validating your logbook during the IACRA sign off.
