Yeah it's confusing because most gate agents check CASS at the same time as check-in.
Checking in isn't the same as clearing CASS though. You only need the visual check (CASS picure) to be
awarded the JS. Maybe Delta gate agents have a policy or IT limitation, but there is nothing stopping us from checking in online for the JS.
For example, list JS on SWA, show up at counter to check in, they hand me a boarding pass. No CASS verification required. Saves them time but you end up boarding last
Or
Ten OAL jumpseaters show up during boarding. No sense checking CASS for all of them. Clear nine of them into seats then the tenth gets CASS checked and awarded the JS.
