Kirby was in Denver ops a few weeks ago. Said will likely kick the 350 can down the road one more time to 2026 and then do a compete with Boeing for 100 aircraft to replace aging 772s. Prefaced with being big Airbus fan, but competition would get best price for either.
It’s interesting how many times this is going to get kicked down the road considering that the 350 was a package deal with Airbus for the airframes and Rolls-Royce for the engines. I would have thought that one of them would have told United to take delivery by now. My guess is that in 2026 the A350 will still be in question and the company will still be looking for a 767 replacement while complaining about the backlog of orders making future delivery years away. At least the inconsistency is consistent.
