The FAR requirement is only 10 hours from the end of your 30 hrs rest. You aren't required to check your schedule earlier than that but the company is required contractually to have it on your schedule via the carveout to use it. If you don't self notify they'll call you when your reserve availability starts to notify you. The 3pm day prior does not affect rest because it is at your option to give you more advance noticed of what is coming (it's actually hours prior to availability so not necessarily always 3pm).
Short answer: there is nothing illegal about the assignment from what you have said thus far.
