P3Bubba,
Hey its Puffy.
When it comes to the ASB you can apply to the board if you can affiliate with in 4 months. Ie Getting out in four months.
As for what the squadrons are looking for: Current in type. Living in the local area (or have pass privileges), and sustain superior performance on the FITREPs.
Big thing is that they if you are viaing for a billet and they have to spend the time and over head to train you and then you live on the other side of the country its tends to be a no brainier.
Rushing the squadron that you want to be in is a HUGE thing. You can send a letter saying that you will commit the time, move to the local area to be closer, and then call the RDH at the squadron, tell him about yourself, ask to have a meeting with the CO and then if they like you get the CO to write a letter for the board and have a letter from your current CO telling them how great you are. If you show the vested interest in the squadrons they will take a longer look at you to fill the spot on the board.
Next biggest thing: get your record in order. Awards, Quals , etc. Your OSR AND PSR need to be perfect. Tells the board that you are interested in a professional record.
Rush the squadrons that you would like to go to, and if you do not get picked up the first time continue to talk to the squadrons and apply the next quarter.
Hope this helps. PM me if you need anything else.
