Pay rates, work rules and domiciles should be the only the thing your worried about.
Unless it's a plane I've already flown, I wouldn't even want to do a DEC position at an airline, especially if this is my first airline.
Why not? If you meet the minimums, why wouldn't you? You'd rather fly as an FO? If I had been flying regularly over the past year, I'd jump all over a DEC position. The only thing stopping me is my currency and the reason I will try to get a Near-DEC position.
The goal of everyone at a regional, except for lifers, is to get TPIC and a DEC position is the quickest way to do it.
And this is not my first airline job, it's just been a while.
