Those 8 year fo’s are going to have a huge payoff for for enduring the warm glow of the xjt dumpster fire. I’m on 12 year narrowbody pay. I get my first choice for vacation, my kids know that I’ll be home for every holiday, I only fly the good trips, and I made just over $200K last year while working half as hard as any regional pilot. If I choose to sacrifice seniority I can go fly the widebodies or bid narrowbody captain and make some real money. Before life at the majors I only focused on doing what I thought would help me get here. It wasn’t fun, and I can’t imagine doing it again, but it was well worth it. The attrition that the legacy airlines are facing will hopefully keep things moving at a fast pace. Unless we have another 9/11 type major event I don’t see a situation similar to today where having 15+ years seniority at a regional is common. The exception will be those that want to stay where they are and those with some type of negative history that would make legacy employers pass them over.
