I can vouch for @Barney's assertion.
There were a few things that the early VX management wanted to do "differently" as a start-up, and quite frankly in my opinion, probably "floated" some of those ideas out there just to see how they might be received.
Back then, management had a true open-door policy and as a result, they got a LOT of push-back EARLY and OFTEN from the pilots already on property, with regards to any proposed departure from de rigueur pilot expectations. To their credit, they listened...
So, despite what you heard, the idea of putting us back to Year 1 pay after upgrade was DOA.
