I like our current system as well but the "angst" out there is the fact that any OT passed out is always same or next day.

Can you imagine a factory where you have a standard 40 hr work week and the plant manager says "Everyone will have the opportunity to work 50 hours next week...but only at straight pay. If you wait for short notice extra time we MIGHT pay you premium pay...or perhaps we won't."

I'm guessing that statement would not be greeted warmly. That's what the premium pay over a certain threshold boils down to. Guaranteed premium pay known days or weeks in advance. For some that certainty is a good thing, even if the premium pay rate is less than GS pay today.

However I still like our current system better.
