Two schools of thought:
1. He will need 200 hours of flying before he can possibly have any use for a second class physical and at least 1000 hours before he would ever require a first class physical. Since he can't even solo until he is 16, it is highly unlikely he will need anything other than a third class before he will be getting his NEXT physical anyway.
2. If he is actually considering an aviation CAREER it might be helpful to determine ahead of time whether or not he would be qualified for a first class medical. And indeed, some aviation 141 colleges require that the entering student demonstrate he/she is qualified for a first class before they allow them to spend mega bucks doing the academics and other ratings for a career that will require a class one or two physical.
Pay your penny and take your pick.
