More like a full medical screening.
Even a First Class medical is fairly rudimentary.
No use getting a medical now if he stands to loose it later due to a dormant condition.
Or pre diabetic or anything in its pre- phase.
Minor color blind deficiency or depth perception issues.
Go for an Astronaut medical including blood work before dropping $150k into degree & flight training.
