There is a lot of good investment potential in the area just north of KMKE (the Bay View neighborhood of Milwaukee.) 5-10 minutes from the airport, lots of trendy bars/ restaurants/ coffee shops. It's an older part of the city so much of the housing units are duplex/ Polish Flat types which would lend themselves to rentals/ crash pads.
The area you describe north and west of the city is more suburban, higher cost and mostly single family. Plus it is 30-45 minutes from the airport in any kind of traffic, depending how far out you go.
The north and west sides of the city are more urban with higher crime rates, although some areas are pretty decent and might fit your needs.
The areas east and south of the airport might also fit your requirements- less hip than Bay View but still a solid, lower-middle class area with low crime, and close to the airport.

Thanks a lot. That’s very helpful. Just as an example, two properties that I saw were in the 2400 block of N 22nd St and the 3700 block of N 10th St. That area seems to pop up a lot with decent deals and each ad I see say it is either close to of part of a revitalizing neighborhood or something to that effect. I just have no idea if that’s actually true or not. I haven’t had the chance to come tour around the city just yet and this whole idea of renting to airline employees just popped into my head recently so every little bit of input helps! I knew that there were some big business planned to move in close to Milwaukee so that’s always a good sign too.
