At the rate they’re going, F&H is going to consult their way out of an income stream. Piedmonts pilot group has shown a willingness to vote “no” to concessions until Piedmont closes its doors on the airline side of the house (even when the Union leadership encourages otherwise as with the recent F&H consulted TA). Every segment of the industry is hiring and Piedmont is rock bottom in terms of pay and QOL. It’s the front end of the largest retirement/hiring wave in recent history. At this point outside of the top 40 pilots, no one has a pension or an emotional investment in flying aircraft with “Operated by Piedmont Airlines” on the side of them. A 5-10 year flow to the Major with the worst financials and lowest likelihood to survive the next large downturn isn’t enough of a carrot for the bottom 51+% of the pilot group to agree to give concessions. Every single pilot on the Piedmont seniority list could have another job lined up in short order when the flight side of the house shuts down and most of those would be a step up on pay and QOL.
