If the goal were to get no pilots applying then the first group that has to stop applying are the most qualified pilots. Then the less qualified would have to stop applying. Then no pilots would apply.
You've just admitted that the tactic works when you said that it scares off the most qualified pilots. So stop trying to defeat a tactic that is helping you get a better contract.
I'm not even advocating for this tactic and I'm not even saying that people here are using this tactic. That's why I quoted your words ("half truths or BS"). If you think it's a "half-truth or BS" just stop trying to "counter it with the truth" because you're only hurting our chances at a new contract.
