1. Yes, but not much. 70 hrs/ month at $31.66/hr. You do not get paid on days off
2. Yes, you pay for your own lodging. Avg Hotels within walking distance of the TK are around $60/night.
3. Yes, you are frozen on equipment for 3 years. All new hires go to the Bus or Guppy. Domiciles in the last few classes have been ORD, DCA, IAD, & LAX. Airbus bids are going to be less for the next few classes because they are trying to train a lot more Airbus PIs (Pilot instructors).
4. Furlough Protection? Your guess is as good as mine. Keep putting more irons in the fire if you have them.
Health care starts day 1. My Medical HMO monthly premium is $0, Dental is $23, and vision is about $22. UAL pays for uniforms which are 6 shirts, 2 pants, blazer, overcoat, 2 ties, and hat. I added it up it is about $900 worth of stuff. Of course, if I were paying, I wouldn't buy 6 shirts.
I think costs or new hire pilots even out in the end no matter which company you go with. You don't pay for hotel at CAL, but you pay for health care. You get 2 weeks of hotel paid for w/ DAL, but not after that and you pay a relatively high premium for health care. United doesn't pay for hotel, but you get lower health care and covered uniforms. So, what's my point? Don't make a career decision based off of initial and up-front costs. If you have to make a decision, look at all the factors.
Anyway, I hope this info helps. Good luck.
