You are right about that. I’ve engaged several times on a cost-free fuel saving issue and gotten nowhere. I SE taxi infrequently (congested routes, heavy, start and stop, soft blacktop on hot days, dark and stormy night) but it still pains me to have both running for 30 minutes just because. The ops add is the best thing they’ve done in awhile though. I know rare diverts cost less than the aggregate saving of all planes carrying less, but on this plane, on this day, these customers care that they get when/where they paid to go. That’s "caring" IMO.
