Also, there's the question of what's best for the pilot group? Is it better to hire more pilots and fly less, or have fewer total pilots, but have more efficient schedules and get paid more?
Whether we're better off flying less, or making more money per pilot with less pilots ( which are subjective preferences and strategies for a company/union to employ ) the aggregate pilot labor cost paid per seat mile IS AN OBJECTIVE NUMBER. This number, whatever it proves to be in the long run, will either have them laughing their asses off at us during their private parties, or respecting our negotiating abilities. The number is either inline with what the market will bear, or it is well below. Right now, in light of the fact that we suddenly need less pilots than they projected, I think it's the latter.
Our deal is done. I accept it. But we need to have open minds on both sides to learn for the future.
