Isn't it safer not to? Having the F/O's head down for all that time doesn't sit well with me and don't forget, safety trumps efficiency as far as the Core 4 cornerstones go.

If a guy can’t even start an engine while taxing or taxi on one engine I’d hate to be on his plane if he had to run an abnormal checklist. Pretty basic stuff here.... your job remember is to be Safe and Efficient, do you also fly around at CI 120 wasting fuel because it’s unsafe to be heads down in the FMC for 30 seconds to change the cost index??? Give me a break....
