I'm also a retired mil fighter guy who was non-current when I left Big Blue and did a short stint at the regionals to get recurrent. I commuted LAS-LAX with Compass and it was easy money.
25+ flights per day on a variety of airlines (including the occasional CPZ flight) and only 45-ish minutes.
Typical Vegas stuff applies: getting out between Sunday afternoon and Monday lunchtime and flying inbound Friday afternoon/evening can be dicey due to loads and mainline pilots jumpseating in for weekend fun.
The one issue I had was that the way CPZ's trips were scheduled (at the time -- dunno now) there were only two flights I could jumpseat in the morning that would get me to LAX in time for a typical trip start about 0730. Similar deal with the return: the last flight to Vegas generally leaves about 2230-2300, and I had many CPZ trips that ended about that same time. Can't tell you how many times the gate I arrived at LAX to end my trip was the same gate the LAX-LAS Delta flight was departing from...and I watched my last potential ride home for the night push back and leave so my flight could block in.
Fortunately the addition of the commuter hotels in the contract relieved some of this problem.
