Flight Duty Pay

Basically, it is a briber.....ah, em, “incentive” pay scheme designed to increase utility among the NJ pilot group.

In a nutshell, once your block time (flight plan time + .2 per leg) in any single tour (however many days that may be) exceeds 12.1 hours, you begin to earn $118 per hour. There is also a convoluted formula for earning addition pay for back side of the clock flying.

The goal was to throw rocks at the pelicans (lazy birds who don’t like to fly) and make pilots more “reluctant” to fatigue or call in sick thereby improving schedule stability and reducing the need for more pilots.

And it has worked. In spades.
