From the ALPA System Schedule Committee update yesterday:

A significant ramp up in transition training for the fall and winter season begins in September. This will result in a series of vacancies similar to last year although planned to be larger in scope. The Company's Crew Resources Manpower Planning group will release Vacancy Bid 19-11V soon to target September transition training. However, due to the number of pilots still needing transition training from 19-05V, 19-07V, 19-09V and anticipated New Hire/Furlough Returns, this first vacancy will be small.

The Company has indicated this Vacancy Bid is the first of what will most likely be monthly vacancy bids, continuing over the next 6 to 8 months in preparation for summer 2020.

After this first vacancy, each subsequent vacancy will target a specific month for transition training to meet manpower needs while respecting TK capacity, and the vacancies should be larger in scope than last year. This targeted monthly plan process is directly tied to the effective date for each vacancy, which should provide a good estimate of when pilots can expect to be assigned training.

It sounds like the cumulative vacancies will be large, but the company is gonna spread them out instead of cramming them into a single GOAB (Godzilla of All Bids).

UAL is gonna be VERY busy hiring pilots (~100/mo) to support this training burst. Three classes of 30 are already planned for August, for example.

Fingers crossed it all happens.
