Most FOs upgrading as soon as they have 950 or 1,000 hours or whatever it is just don’t know what they don’t know. Many of our Checkairman only have 500-1,000 hours in the left seat in some cases.

Hours spent in a particular seat aren’t necessarily indicative of a pilot’s abilities to learn and perform as expected but in many cases there simply is no substitute for experience.
Yeah I feel more like a flight instructor than the captain of a crew most trips these days...
