I have to agree with you. Most "shows" like this have age entry requirements. Public venues like airport terminals can't begin to screen for that. Would the Chippendales be appropriate in EWR's C concourse?

I had a layover in San Jose once where the banquet hall had a gay/drag fashion show and contest. You had to be 18 to enter and they were checking ID. But they didn't do it in the lobby where just anyone and their kids could stumble across them. That's called responsibility.
United showed a distinct lack of responsibility in this case. I wonder who in PR thought this would be a good idea.
