There are plenty of dirtbags that hate their job and go out of there way to screw the company, yet they are more senior and get the better schedules and pay. Something wrong with that.

I much rather advance based on my performance, contribution, and a little bit of politics rather than on seniority alone. If there is no motivation to excel in your job, then your performance will suffer. If you know that your advancements are based on performance, then you'd do a better job.
