I did the EWR-LAX commute a couple months. Between AS and UA there were 15+ flights/day and Fedex had 2 nonstops as well. Several times I took that 1:10am depart EWR on Fedex landing LA about 4am. I always got on, never missed a flight. The problem with this commute isn’t making a flight. It’s the 6.5 hr westbound, 5.5 hr eastbound duration along with the 3 hr time zone change. Do this 4 times a month and you’ve spent 2 full days (48 hrs block) in the air commuting. It’s long, tiring, and IMO only a short term solution. I can’t imagine commuting this for the rest of a 30+ yr career. So I moved to LAX.
