If this is something you’re seeing a lot of, then I would bet there are CKA’s telling them to do that. We (new FO’s) get a lot of mixed messages based on many varying opinions of what we should be doing at any given time.
Your job. If a captain is waiting for you or has to tell you (or any FO) to get back in the cockpit so they can give a release or departure briefing you are 100% doing something wrong.
Your job isn’t to stand in the galley and welcome passengers aboard. At any given time if you’re not doing the walk around you can’t go wrong with sitting in your seat. I highly, HIGHLY doubt check airmen are telling new FOs to stand in the galley.
