If you really want to talk ridiculous, let's talk about why people place such a high emphasis on celebrating things on set days. Think of all the stress that is caused by such a construct. It's always entertaining to watch people staring at their watches as they time their exits, so they can hit every possible event in a day. Alright kids, this side of family is out of time...get in the car, time to spend time with the other side.

Then you have the types that sit on their high horse and talk down to the guys who don't mind GSing on those days because they assume everyone follows their construct. Nevermind that my family had previously set a date 5 days later so we can, you know, actually spend quality together. Same goes for weekends...not everyone has kids and/or significant others that only work Mon-Fri. Some actually prefer to work weekends because their S.O. has a flexible schedule and the lake is dead during the week which makes it more enjoyable.

Clearly, I don't particularly care about getting holidays off but I would certainly support holiday pay so those who do care, have a better shot of getting it off.
