Or go big. I flew with a guy recently that has Gold status on UAL because he buys a ticket every time using the UAL discount. The guy realized that he was not gonna move anytime soon, his only stress was commuting, he could save hotel costs, and even at several thousand dollars per year it was still a fraction of his household income.
That's pretty baller. I've thought about that and it makes sense if you're on wide body captain pay and that three day is going to pay you $6000. Why not spend $300 on a ticket. The only thing is if I did that, it would absolutely eat me alive if I was sitting there and the plane went out with empty seats.
