Some have said that RLA makes unions a way of cheaply retaining employees who in a rational market would go elsewhere. If I could make a lateral move to another regional without stigma and without losing seniority, I'd be resigned before 5 o' clock today. Similarly, if I could withhold labor until management raised compensation (and QOL) to market rates, I'd be happy to stay. Can't do either without shooting myself in the foot as it is now.
