March 2015 Hire here. We were emailed our drop about a week before class. I think we were told the reason being was that they had some regional flows that would hold our seniority date but would not be in class. As a non-regional guy, I'm not sure how all that works.
During 2014 and 2015 they had Compass flows (20-25 mo) that were slotted into those classes but were then held back at Compass for 90 days so we got seniority numbers at Delta but then didn't actually go to Indoc for 3 months.
We got an email a few weeks prior to class with the drop and we submitted our preference based on seniority. On our "hire date" we were emailed with the results in the afternoon after the rest of the class had their choice based on seniority.
There aren't any flows anymore so that part is of the equation is out but I'm sure it's nice for everyone to have a little heads up on what to expect.
