I remember the summers of 14-16 which were a feeding frenzy on the extreme narrow body fleets (88/717). Conflict trips and rolling thunder. People complained we waited to long to hire and we were flying everyday on reserve. End of 16-18 stuff dried up and people complained about no green slips. I think it ebb and flows, but I believe we might have thinned out our buffer a bit. I can see us increasing hiring in the next year to fix this mistake. At least that is my hope.
I actually think the opposite will happen. They will chalk up the cancellations to bad weather and other factors and actually decrease staffing a little more next summer. I don’t think there has been enough pain yet to cause them to staff up the airline.
