Many pilots on the 777 or 787 could have been NB captains years ago. A 28 hour 3 day where you spend half of the time asleep in the bunks is a sweet deal. Bidding to work more days per month, flying multiple leg, unproductive 4 day trips sounds like a tough pill to swallow. Some may go for captain seats, but my guess is that most are on the 777 because they want to be. Unless you’re just not cut out for international flying, flying NB captain is a bunch more work for not that much more money. This should be interesting to watch.
I dont get why they bothered publishing a min/max for the displacement. The guys bumped can go anywhere their seniority can hold so those numbers are meaningless.
I thought I saw a note in there that there wont be secondary displacements...but I will have to go back and look. We have a large number of extremely junior Captains in several of the bases (myself included). Even if we dont get bumped out of the seat, only about 10 of those 70 displacements are junior to me. There will definitely be an effect in EWR and IAD and SFO if even a small number of these guys bump into the left seat of NBs.
It will be interesting to see the first few snapshots.
