Based on your post, I assume IAD is not a choice base. I don't like it in Virginia either. The areas around Dulles are super nice and higher class, but I just can't stand Virginia laws and taxes.
Lived just inside the ADIZ during my tenure at Trans States...in the Boonies, life was good...just stay away from DC and any big town in Northern VA and it's a good life.
