The 797 was a proposed fuselage with no engine, it was never a real airplane. This is the same issue for the supersonic jets in development.
I think you are right which I why I would say if there is any truth to this rumor whatsoever, it would be that we have spirit some of our 100 options, and that we would wait to see if the max 10 pans out. But who knows we will be the last to know
It does make me a little nervous that we delayed our neos due to “cosmetic stuff”
