As someone earlier noted, this was a bigger issue post 9/11 for a couple years than seemed cool off. I agree that having one of the paid "enhanced" security programs helps limit getting the dreaded SSSS. I think the new TSA honcho's are just tightening things up and think flight crew are a soft spot is security. This will catch guy's flat footed when JSing, no doubt.
And those “honchos” would be idiots. The soft spot is the FA and ramp and gate agents that were wall mart greeters a month prior. I already have control of the plane!!!! It’s maddening
