Why is it, when someone bashes someone else's cable news network of choice, people get so fired up and defensive (or shall I say "triggered")?

These entities are for profit, manufactured, very intentionally designed businesses, with the sole aim of distributing information to their chosen demographic, to increase viewership and gain advertising dollars.

They aren't giving you information because they want to inform you! They are spewing non stop, opinionated information that they know you'll agree with so you keep on coming back!

So again...whats the need to defend a cable news channel?
It’s not a defense of cable news, but it’s indicative of the fact that we all have points of view and can no longer disagree on them without becoming disagreeable.

The Daily Express, National Enquirer, etc are not news outlets at all, but tabloids. People bring a news channel into the discussion not to attack the network, but as a veiled attempt to attack the people who share its points of view. Making the comparison was just a catalyst to show his displeasure at their points of view without having to address actual issues.

Now, back to my safe space.
