This actually burns far less fuel and has a number of benefits as mentioned above. Everyone loves to make fun of OO, especially myself, but let’s look at their financial success vs. ours at CPZ..... I don’t do it to get the extra .1 because I don’t care. As someone else said above “just pick up an extra turn every month” which is what I do. Don’t be that fool who flys fast even when we are way early into LAX and then has to make 5 PAs about an occupied gate.
I said just pick up an extra turn 😅. Anyway, I don't get places that early flying. 78, and yikes don't work so hard man! - 5 PAs? Tell 'em we got to wait for a gate because we're early, throw an estimate out there, let 'em know you'll take any earlier gate opportunities, privately tell your FAs to let 'em go to the lav... And be done! Chill.. As long as pax know they'll still be on time, no one cares in my experience. But hey, this is why we get to fly with our favorite captains every day... Do it however you want.
Edit: many times I've landed 20 (occasionally 30 minutes when there is no actual flow time) minutes early and we have a gate and the alleys open.. It's really nice getting to my car by the scheduled arrival time.. Everybody's happy when that happens. I rarely have to wait for a gate because we're early.. Usually it's due to congestion in the alley or a delay on the gate.
