Scope is tied to narrow body jets to protect us from the big shrink during a recession. Over the last 20+ years the majors have given away scope piece by piece. If we could, we’d gut the regional flying overnight and bring it back to mainline, but that’s not a realistic possibility. This is about bringing the flying back, growing mainline, and shrinking the regionals as fast as we can. The company put scope on the table, but the union and pilot group have made it very clear that it isn’t for sale at any price. Under our current contract the company has the option to provide more rj’s, they just don’t want to right now. They’re hoping we cave, meanwhile the orders for 100 seat jets stack up.
