Come on guys - saying deicing fluid costs $7/gallon because FBO's charge that much is like saying peanuts costs $2 each after raiding the minibar to satisfy a well lubricated hunger at 0200. All the major airlines buy in bulk for much cheaper and collect the runoff. Do you really think Al Gore would stand by and let all that deicing fluid run off into our pristine woodlands and imperil Bambi?
For what its worth the SLC Chief Pilots E-newsletter said the average cost to de-ice a mainline jet at SLC was $400. Figure proportionately less for RJ's.
