The Delta pilots are getting the same treatment, they get "deviated" from their schedules non-stop. It's highly unlikely we will get better protections against this than them. The truth is, once the trip starts, you're just at work. And they put you to work in the best way they see fit. You're right though, it sucks when you had plans on an overnight and it gets destroyed.
