Sounds more like a MH-53 or T2 description than a gunship. Rarely is a full gunship crew ever credited medal-wise for their accomplishments. Sure, the crew is usually not very pleased with the double standards when it comes to recognition. The top brass within the command rarely allows a full gunship crew get put in for significant awards (i.e. once I know of). Their mindset seems to be, "We can't put a full crew of 13 in for 'fill in the blank'." Instead, a select few get recognized. From our perspective it looks like the spec ops aircraft with smaller crews (and more significant leadership at the wing level and higher) get the nod. Don't read this as I'm displeased on my part, but my navs and gunners are all too often overlooked. So, yeah, our guys don't care for it much and grumble from time to time, but for the most part they keep going at our jobs (read: Spectre 7 years plus deployed and still going) knowing what really counts in the end.
