I will likely be transferring to ORD within a couple of months, so what are some good neighborhoods to live in with good connection to ORD. I really like the suburbs north of ORD, but not exactly sure how difficult daily commute would be by car, public transportation, etc.

Car from the N/NW burbs works fine, subject to the particulars of your airline's parking arrangements/bus from the lot etc. Public transportation from the same burbs - look at the metra map, see if it works for the particular suburbs you are looking at, might be too time consuming.
