There's a difference between being unfit to fly and needing medical attention and no one should make you decide between the two.
The intent is to cut down on abuse of sick calls but that's not the way to do it.
If you think about the IMSAFE checklist the only things largely out of your control are “illness or medication.” You can get a doctors note.
All the rest is controllable... Stress, alcohol, fatigue and emotion are up to you. Use your mandatory rest period to rest. Don’t drink. By the time you’re an adult you should be good enough at managing stress and emotion so that it doesn’t need to interfere with work.
Maybe I’m young and naive but I can’t imagine to many scenarios where I would be “unfit to fly” and also couldn’t get a doctors note
