If you think about the IMSAFE checklist the only things largely out of your control are “illness or medication.” You can get a doctors note.
All the rest is controllable... Stress, alcohol, fatigue and emotion are up to you. Use your mandatory rest period to rest. Don’t drink. By the time you’re an adult you should be good enough at managing stress and emotion so that it doesn’t need to interfere with work.
Maybe I’m young and naive but I can’t imagine to many scenarios where I would be “unfit to fly” and also couldn’t get a doctors note
Fatigue is not really up to you when you've worked all day, diverted, been extended, barely eaten, did 4 plane swaps, had hotel issues, fought storms all day, ect..
