Not to be hypertechnical, but for clarity, they aren't being subcontracted out. Amazon pulled them from Atlas and hired ATSG to fly them. They are Amazon's planes in the sense that Amazon is the dry-lessee for ten years. Yes they are lleased from an AAWW affiliate, but they might as well be leased from GECAS like the 737s are. Atlas has a CMI agreement to operate them that allows Amazon to pull them from the CMI agreement at its convenience. That they are pulling some of them is entirely based on Atlas's inability sufficiently to staff all of them at the tempo Amazon wants. Spread more Atlas 767 pilots over fewer aircraft is the goal, so the remaining ones can operate at a sufficient tempo.
