You disagree with what? Calling the DO when a low level employee denies a request that goes against policy but makes sense? Or the fact that you should have to call the DO at all? This type of thing goes on in every large organization. The policy probably makes sense most of the time but obviously didn't in this case. The only recourse at that point is call the DO or suck it up. Griping about it on a message board but not taking any action is just plain stupid.
However, it appears they did the right thing and still got denied. I agree that's BS. The next step I guess would be to take it to your ACP.
I disagree with having to call the DO at all. Like I said in my initial post, this exact thing goes on each and every Christmas and New Year. By now, they, as in management, should have realized that some of us get caught, unexpectedly, in Memphis on these nights, and that with very little utilization of the sleep rooms by live crews during these times, there are plenty of rooms to go around. The reason I've heard for not giving up the rooms, is that there is limited maid service the following day, so they don't want to mess up too many of the rooms. I'd suggest if the company doesn't want to pay for the domestic help to clean these rooms, that guys would be willing to pay $5 or $10 for their use on the above mentioned nights, thereby providing the funds to have someone come in and clean the rooms, in the unlikely event that the company can't afford to pay them.
