I had things as an intern at CAL back in 2008 that we don't have yet at DAL in 2019... So as far as employee IT we are at least 10 or 15 years behind UAL. Though as you stated they don't care about the employee experience it's all about pinching that penny to make the dollar.
Remember when we got PS passes for an IT/infrastructure meltdown, and then there was another IT/infrastructure meltdown a couple months later and it was all shhhhhhhhhh.
