FAR 65.57

You can do the whole thing on your own if you want. The written is about the same as the ATP written. (Why dispatchers need to know how to enter a hold is beyond me.) There are a few extra questions about dispatcher duty times. The hard part is the practical test. You’ll have two hours to generate a flight release by hand for a 737. Many of the part 65 dispatcher schools have a short course of a week or two for pilots just to prepare you for the practical exam. They’ll require you you to have passed the written on your own. The normal off the street classes are 200 hours.
