New guys will know more, I've been out of the loop for a while, but I could never find a rhyme or reason for how long it took the guys I recommended to get a call.

They say their methods are changing, that HR is taking a bigger role, whereas it used to be the pilots, mostly. And hiring is now only beginning to pick up after a summer standdown.

It may not be mandatory to attend a hiring event, but you should probably proceed as though it was. Hit it from every conceivable angle. Attend an event, scour your contacts to get internal recs, if you can, and consider professional interview prep if you get the call.
